A city in eastern Pennsylvania, USA. It is located about 130 km west of New York and 65 km northwest of Philadelphia, on the banks of the Lehigh River. The name comes from its founder, W. Allen. Since the mid-19th century, cement factories, rolling mills, and other facilities have been established, and the city has developed into an industrial city. Its largest industries are electronic parts, trucks, cotton textiles, food products, machinery, and machine tools. There are abundant deposits of iron ore and zinc in the vicinity, and it is also the center of a fertile agricultural region. There are also many universities, including the state university Allentown College. Population: 118,032 (2010).
