Flywheel - Flywheel

A wheel attached to eliminate unevenness in rotation speed. Also called a flywheel. In steam engines and internal combustion engines, unevenness in the driving force during one cycle cannot be eliminated by itself due to fluctuations in steam pressure, gas pressure, and the piston-crank mechanism. It is desirable for a machine to rotate as smoothly as possible. Therefore, a flywheel is used to reduce the fluctuation in rotation speed caused by the difference between the drive and the load. Usually, a flywheel with a large diameter and weight is used to absorb and retain a large amount of kinetic energy, and this energy is used against the maximum load. For example, in stamping and forging machines, if the output of the electric motor is set to maximum during impact, output will be wasted under no load, so the electric motor output is set to the average resistance force of one cycle, and a flywheel is attached to the shaft to absorb the kinetic energy, which is then used during impact.

回転速度のむらをなくすために取り付けられた車。フライホイールflywheelともいう。蒸気機関、内燃機関などでは蒸気圧、ガス圧の変動やピストン・クランク機構などによって1サイクル間の駆動力のむらは、そのままでは除去できない。機械はその回転中は、なるべく円滑に回転するのが望ましい。そこで、駆動と負荷との差によって発生する回転速度の変動を少なくするために、はずみ車が使われる。通常、直径、重量とも大きなはずみ車を使い、大きな運動エネルギーを吸収保有させておき、最大負荷に対して、このエネルギーを利用する。たとえば打抜き機械、鍛造機械では電動機の出力を打撃時に最大にしておくと、無負荷状態で出力のむだが生ずるので、電動機出力を1サイクルの平均抵抗力にしておき、軸にはずみ車を取り付けてこれに運動エネルギーを吸収させ、このエネルギーを打撃時に利用する方法がとられる。
