Mr. Sawa - Sawauji

Japanese: 沢氏 - さわうじ

A medieval local feudal lord who was entrenched in Sawa, Uda County, Yamato Province. The documents he handed down were soon taken out of his hands and sold to Tanaka Mitsuaki by Shimada Naojiro in 1888, and are currently housed in the Cabinet Library of the National Archives of Japan. Most of them are documents from the Muromachi to Sengoku periods. The Sawa clan has been seen in historical documents as a southern army since the Nanboku-cho period, and as a vassal of the Kitabatake clan, the governor of Ise Province, and later as a vassal, he left behind a large number of documents issued by the Kitabatake clan and their retainers. His relationship with the Kitabatake clan continued until their downfall at the end of the Sengoku period, during which he was assigned fiefs in Ise, including Kobe Rokugo in Iitaka County, Koazaka in Ichishi County, and Miito in Taki County, and served in the military.

大和国宇陀郡沢に蟠踞（ばんきよ）した中世国人領主。その伝世した文書群は早く同氏の手を離れ，1888年島田直次郎から田中光顕に売却され，現在国立公文書館内閣文庫蔵。大半が室町～戦国期の文書である。沢氏は南北朝期から南軍として史料上に散見し，伊勢国司北畠氏の与力，のちには被官として，その文書中に北畠氏およびその家臣の発給文書を大量に残している。北畠氏との関係は戦国末年の北畠氏の滅亡まで継続し，その間，伊勢に飯高（いいたか）郡神戸六郷，一志（いちし）郡小阿射賀（こあざか），多気（たき）郡御糸（みいと）などの分領を宛て行われ，軍役を奉仕している。
