The last emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty of Vietnam (reigned 1932-1945). His name is written in Chinese as Ho-da. He studied in France. Vietnam was under Japanese protection during World War II, but after the war he approached the Viet Minh and later allied with France. In 1949 he became the head of South Vietnam. He lost to Ngo Dinh Diem in a national referendum in 1955 and retired.
