Bao Dai

Japanese: バオダイ

The last emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty of Vietnam (reigned 1932-1945). His name is written in Chinese as Ho-da. He studied in France. Vietnam was under Japanese protection during World War II, but after the war he approached the Viet Minh and later allied with France. In 1949 he became the head of South Vietnam. He lost to Ngo Dinh Diem in a national referendum in 1955 and retired. He went into exile in France.

ベトナムのグエン（阮）朝最後の皇帝（在位1932年―1945年）。漢字では保大。フランスに留学。第２次大戦中日本の保護下にあったが，戦後ベトミンに接近，のちフランスと結び，1949年南ベトナム国首席。1955年の国民投票でゴ・ディン・ジェムに敗れ，引退。フランスに亡命。
