Vaikuṇṭha (mountain) (English spelling)

Japanese: バイクンタ[山]（英語表記）Vaikuṇṭha

It is the heaven of Vishnu, the preserving god of Hinduism, and is located on the southern slope of Mount Meru (Shumi Mountain), the center of the world (some say it is east of Mount Meru, or on the top of Mount Mandara). Its palace is gold and studded with jewels and surrounded by perpetual light, and it is said that the pure waters of the Ganges descend here from heaven. Vishnu is called Vaikuntha Natha (Lord of Vaikuntha), and it is said that he sits on a white lotus with his divine wife Lakshmi, and the fragrance of the lotus spreads far and wide. [Tanaka Otoya]

ヒンドゥー教三主神のうち，維持神ビシュヌの天国で，世界の中心メール山(須弥山)の南斜面にあり(一説にはメール山の東方，あるいはマンダラ山の頂上ともいう)，その宮殿は黄金に宝石をちりばめて常恒の光に包まれ，天界からガンガーの清流がここに降下するといわれる。ビシュヌはバイクンタ･ナータ(バイクンタの主)とよばれ，神妃ラクシュミーとともに白い蓮華の上に座し，蓮華の香りが遠くまで広がっているという。【田中於菟弥】
