Noto Kongo

Japanese:
Noto Kongo

A scenic spot on the west coast of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture. It is located in Shikamachi, Hakui County. It covers 29 kilometers from Fukuura Port to Sekinohana in the north, and was named after its scenery that rivals that of Mount Kongo on the Korean Peninsula. It is lined with strangely shaped rocks eroded by the rough waves of the Sea of Japan, and is a representative example of the masculine coastal beauty of the Noto Sotoura coast. In the southern part, there are igneous rocks mainly made of andesite such as Gobanjima, Takanosu Rock, Ganmon, Hatago Rock, and Fukiage Falls. To the north, passing through the sand dunes of Masuhogaura and Tomi Port, there are coastal terraces with strangely shaped limestone rocks, Gentoku Cape, Yase Cliff, and Sekinohana. The bamboo fences surrounding houses to protect against the winter monsoons and the wave flowers that dance with droplets in the harsh winter are some of the unique sights. The Ganmon Cave can be accessed by boat and is the site of the legend of Yoshitsune. The area is part of the Noto Peninsula Quasi-National Park.

The Ganmon in the photo is a natural cave (approximately 6m wide, 15m high, and 60m deep) carved into the cliff, and is one of the most representative sights of Noto Kongo. Legend has it that Minamoto no Yoshitsune and his followers hid in this cave on their way to Oshu. Shika Town, Hakui County, Ishikawa Prefecture ©Shogakukan ">
