…An ancient North Indian dynasty (c. 180-68 BC). According to the Puranas, the general Puṣyamitra founded the dynasty by assassinating his master, Brihadratha, the last king of the Mauryan Empire. The capital was at Pataliputra, as in the previous dynasty, but the territory was limited to the area from the middle reaches of the Ganges River, which was the heart of the Mauryan Empire, to central India.
