Dotera (robe) - Dotera

Japanese:
Dotera (robe) - Dotera
A Japanese loungewear for protection against the cold. Mostly for men, but some for children. Made larger than a long kimono, it is thickly padded with cotton, has wide sleeves, and a black satin or cotton velvet collar. It is a variation of the tetera (short workwear), and is a type of thick tetera. In the Edo period, it was made from cotton or silk tsumugi, and worn over a long kimono. Craftsmen would wear a silk tsumugi dotera with a six-foot obi belt when going out. As it was also worn as nightwear, it is considered to be somewhere between a tanzen and a kaimaki. Japanese:
