Imakagami - Imakagami

Japanese:
Imakagami - Imakagami

A historical tale from the end of the Heian period. There are theories that it was written in 1170 (Kao 2) or later, and the most likely author is Fujiwara no Tametsune (Jakucho). Following on from "Okagami," this chronicle is written in the form of a roundtable discussion, and covers the history from 1025 (Manju 2) to 1170 in the form of a chronicle. Volumes 1-3 are the imperial chronicles from Emperor Goichijo to Emperor Takakura, volumes 4-6 are the Fujiwara clan, volume 7 is the Murakami Genji clan, volume 8 is the biographies of various princes, and volumes 9 and 10 are stories of the elegant and miraculous. Much of the writing is devoted to the court ceremonies and elegant rituals of the court aristocratic society, and the story consciously does not delve deeply into the real political and social changes. This is because the author attempted to portray the dynasty and its culture, which were in peril at the time, as something that still truly existed, and herein lies the uniqueness of Imakagami.
