Nördlingen - Nerutoringen (English spelling) Nördlingen

A town in Bavaria in southern Germany. Population 21,000 (1993). Located in the center of the Ries Basin, at a key point on the medieval trade route, it flourished as a market town. It was a distribution center for woolen textiles, leather products, and agricultural products. The town enjoyed a golden age in the 15th and 16th centuries, but later fell into decline due to damage caused by the battlefield twice during the Thirty Years' War, in 1634 and 1645. The town is located on the so-called Romantic Road, and its circular city walls have been preserved, along with the city gate, St. George's Church, and rows of gabled houses, retaining a medieval landscape to this day.
