Nemuro Bay - Nemurowan

It refers to the sea area in eastern Hokkaido, stretching from the Nemuro Peninsula to Cape Notsukesaki in the north, across the Nemuro Strait to Kunashiri Island. To the south lies the Nemuro Peninsula, an uplifted sea-cut plateau, and to the west, the end of the Konsen Plateau slopes toward Nemuro Bay, so all rivers flow eastward. Nemuro Port, located in the east, was once the base of a sea route connecting the Kuril Islands and the Habomai Islands.

北海道東部、根室半島から北方の野付崎(のつけさき)にかけての海域で、根室海峡を隔てて国後島(くなしりとう)までの間をさす。南は隆起海食台の根室半島が横たわり、西は根釧(こんせん)台地の末端が根室湾に向かって傾斜しているため、河川はいずれも東流している。東部にある根室港は、かつては千島(ちしま)、歯舞(はぼまい)群島との連絡航路の基点であった。
