Weifang - Ibo

Japanese: 濰坊 - いぼう

A city in Shandong Province, China. Population 1.18 million (1994). Center of the Changwei region. Located on the Jiaoji Railway that runs from Jinan to Qingdao and Yantai, at the base of the Shandong Peninsula, at the northern foot of Mount Yishan. It is the commercial and industrial transportation center in the northeastern part of the province, and its agriculture consists of field crops such as wheat, soybeans, and sorghum. It is also famous as a producer of Shandong leaf tobacco. Weifang was formed by the merger of Wei County and Fangzi. Wei County was formerly Pingshou County in Beihai County during the Han Dynasty, and was the center of Beihai County and Weizhou thereafter. Fangzi is a town south of the city, known for its coal production. It is located at a strategic point connecting the lower Yellow River basin with the south on the coast, and has been developed since ancient times.

中国，山東省の市。人口118万(1994)。昌濰地区の中心。済南より青島，烟台へ向かう膠済鉄道に沿い，山東半島のつけ根，沂山の北麓にある。省北東部の商工業交通の中心で，農業は小麦，大豆，コーリャンなどの畑作。山東葉タバコの産地としても有名。濰坊とは濰県と坊子が合併してできたもので，濰県は漢の北海郡平寿県の地で，以後北海郡，濰州の中心であった。坊子は市の南にある鎮で，石炭の産出で知られる。黄河下流域と南方を，海岸側で結ぶ要衝にあり，古くから開けた。
