Kiyomizu Bridge

...A bridge over Gojo-dori (before 1589, Matsubara-dori) on the Kamo River in Kyoto. In the past, it was also called Kiyomizu-bashi because it was a pilgrimage route to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and the entry for June 25, 1139 in the Hyakurensho states that it was a memorial service for Kiyomizu-dera Bridge. It is also called Kanjin-bashi because the monks of Kiyomizu-dera Temple went around collecting donations for the construction of the bridge.
