One of the Buddhist facilities associated with Ise Grand Shrine. There is also Horakusha (Horakuji) from the Kamakura period, but in ancient times there was Daijingu-ji Temple for a time. The article in the Shoku Nihongi, "The Chronicles of Japan," in which Taki Daijingu-ji Temple was moved to Watarai County in December 698, is difficult to establish as a reliable proof of Daijingu-ji Temple because the character for "temple" is missing in the old manuscript, but the article in the same book for July 766, "Tenpyo Jingo-ji Temple," in which the Imperial Court dispatched an envoy to have a 18-foot Buddha statue erected for Ise Daijingu-ji Temple. The Daijingu Shozajiki, in addition, states that in 767, an imperial decree was issued to make Oukasedera Temple Daijingu-ji Temple, but in 776, "Hōki-ji Temple" was abolished due to the disturbances caused by the temple's monks.
