A mountain in the center of the Northern Alps on the border of Toyama, Gifu, and Nagano prefectures. It is 2,841 meters above sea level. The mountain ridge is divided into three, one that connects to the Ushiro Tateyama mountain range via Mt. Washiba and Mt. Noguchigoro in the northeast, the other that connects to the Tateyama mountain range via Mt. Yakushi in the northwest, and the other that connects to the Momizawa mountain range via Mt. Yari and the Hotaka mountain range in the south. The Kurobe River, Takase River, and Kanakido River flow out from between these three ridges. The mountain is made of ancient granite, and the summit is flat, sloping gently toward the Kurobe River in the north, and steeply toward the Kanakido River in the west and the Takase River in the east. The Mitsumatarenge Cirque is on the eastern slope, and the Mitsumataragoya hut is located on the flat surface in the north. The mountain was named by Ozeki Hisagoro, who climbed it during the Taisho era. [Saburo Fukai] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
