Nishina Morito - Nishina Morito

Japanese:
Nishina Morito - Nishina Morito
Year of birth: Year of birth and death unknown. A military commander in the early Kamakura period. Some historical sources say he was Moritomo. His father was Nishina no Nakakata, a resident of Shinano Province. On his way to Kumano, the retired Emperor Gotoba summoned Moritomo's two children and placed them in his northern side. As a result, Moritomo also became a northern side warrior of the retired Emperor. However, because he was subservient to the retired Emperor without the permission of the Kamakura Shogunate, two of his territories were confiscated. As can be seen from this example, it is believed that the retired Emperor Gotoba's pilgrimage to Kumano was intended to make contact with local samurai. During the Jokyu War (1221), he sided with the capital and was dispatched to the Hokuriku road. He was deployed at Tonamiyama on the border between Etchu and Kaga, but was defeated by the Shogunate forces led by Hojo Tomotoki. His whereabouts after this are unknown, but it is said that he was killed in battle at Seta in Omi Province.
