A general term for four species of mammals in the Lobodontini tribe of the Phocidae family in the Antarctic Ocean: the crabeater seal ( Lobodon carcinophagus ), the Weddell seal (Leptonychotes weddelli) , the leopard seal (Hydrurga leptonyx) , and the Ross's seal (Ommatophoca rossi) . Classified as similar to the monk seal, all four species are large and numerous. All four species are found in the sea ice area surrounding the Antarctic continent.
