Antarctic seal

Japanese: ナンキョクアザラシ（英語表記）Antarctic seal

A general term for four species of mammals in the Lobodontini tribe of the Phocidae family in the Antarctic Ocean: the crabeater seal ( Lobodon carcinophagus ), the Weddell seal (Leptonychotes weddelli) , the leopard seal (Hydrurga leptonyx) , and the Ross's seal (Ommatophoca rossi) . Classified as similar to the monk seal, all four species are large and numerous. All four species are found in the sea ice area surrounding the Antarctic continent.

鰭脚（ききやく）目アザラシ科Lobodontini族の哺乳類で，南極海に分布するカニクイアザラシLobodon carcinophagusをはじめ，ウェッデルアザラシLeptonychotes weddelli，ヒョウアザラシHydrurga leptonyx，ロスアザラシOmmatophoca rossiの4種の総称。分類的には4種ともモンクアザラシに近い。大型で，生息数が多い。4種とも南極大陸を取り囲む海氷域に分布する。
