A local lord of Nawa County, Kozuke Province. With the establishment of the Kamakura Shogunate, Nawa County was given to Oe Hiromoto, who was invited from Kyoto as a legal bureaucrat and became a senior retainer of the Shogunate, and his son, Munemoto, was the origin of the Nawa clan. Munemoto's son, Masashige, became a member of the Council of Ministers and played an important role within the Shogunate. After the establishment of the Muromachi Shogunate, he played an active role as a servant of the Kamakura Shogunate, and was contracted to be the magistrate of Tone Manor for his relatives, the Otomo clan, who had moved west to Bungo. In the Eikyō Rebellion and the Yuki War in the first half of the 15th century, he belonged to the Uesugi clan, the kanrei and guardian of Kozuke Province, and his family appeared as members of the Joshu Ikki, an uprising of local lords in Kozuke Province.
