Dogoyama (1,269m) on the border between Hiroshima and Tottori prefectures, flows southeast, and empties into the Takahashi River in western Okayama Prefecture. It is the largest tributary of the Takahashi River, with a total length of about 80km. The upper reaches are called the Tojo River, and the river basin was once a producer of iron sand. It carves a V-shaped valley in the Kibi Plateau. The Shinnariwa Dam and Tahara Dam were built in Takahashi City, Okayama Prefecture, and supply industrial water to the Mizushima coastal industrial area. The Taishaku Gorge of the Taishaku River, a tributary in eastern Hiroshima Prefecture, is a scenic spot. The Kasagami Mojiiwa Rock near the Shinnariwa Dam is a valuable historical site that shows that shipping had already reached this area during the Kamakura period.
