This hot spring is located in Nasu-machi, Nasu-gun, Tochigi Prefecture. It is the center of the Nasu Onsenkyo, which spreads across the Nasu Plateau at the southeastern foot of Mt. Nasu. It is an acidic alum spring, 70°C. The source of the spring is Shika-no-yu, which wells up in the valley of the Yukawa River, and the hot spring town is located on the high ground on the west bank of the river. It has long been known as a hot spring resort, and at the Motoyu public bath along the Yukawa River, traditional bathing methods such as timed bathing and massaging the baths under the direction of the bathmaster are practiced. There is also Kira-yu, where bathers can heal sores from hot springs. Nearby are Yuzen Shrine, where Nasu no Yoichi is said to have prayed before the Genpei War, and the Killing Stone, known for the legend of the nine-tailed fox.
