A former town in Naka District, eastern Tokushima Prefecture. Occupying a delta on the north bank of the Naka River estuary, the town cultivates rice and has greenhouse gardens. The Mugi Line runs through the town. Nakajima, the main settlement, is a distribution center for lumber, and lumber and woodworking are carried out here. Nori and wakame seaweed farming is also thriving here. In March 2006, it was incorporated into Unoura Town, Naka District, and Anan City. Area: 18.65 km2 . Population: 11,056 (2003). 徳島県東部,那賀郡の旧町。那賀川河口北岸の三角州を占め,米作,施設園芸を行う。牟岐(むぎ)線が通じる。主集落の中島は木材の集散地で,製材・木工業が行われる。ノリ・ワカメの養殖も盛ん。2006年3月那賀郡羽ノ浦町と阿南市へ編入。18.65km2。1万1056人(2003)。
