A former town in Naka District, eastern Tokushima Prefecture. Occupying a delta on the north bank of the Naka River estuary, the town cultivates rice and has greenhouse gardens. The Mugi Line runs through the town. Nakajima, the main settlement, is a distribution center for lumber, and lumber and woodworking are carried out here. Nori and wakame seaweed farming is also thriving here. In March 2006, it was incorporated into Unoura Town, Naka District, and Anan City. Area: 18.65 km2 . Population: 11,056 (2003).
