Sines

The industrial areas are concentrated along the coastline from Braga to Setubal, especially around Porto and Lisbon, and inland there are the woolen textile industry in Covilhã, the textile, chemical, pulp and paper industry in the triangle connecting Tórres Novas with Tomar and Abrantes. Recently, a large petroleum refining and chemical complex has been built in Sines in the south.

The proportion of the workforce employed in the tertiary industry increased from 27.5% in 1960 to 49.7% in 1991.
