A waka index book. There are two volumes each of the main and sequel, each consisting of a poetry collection section and an index section. The editors of the main volume were Matsushita Daizaburou and Watanabe Fumio, and the sequel was Matsushita Daizaburou. The editors were Kimura Masakoto, Ochiai Naobumi and five others. The main volume was published between 1901 and 1903 (Meiji 34-36, Kyobunkan), and the sequel between 1925 and 1926 (Taisho 14-15, Kigensha). Both the main volume and sequel were later published in 1931 (Showa 6, Chubunkan) and 1951 (Showa 26, Kadokawa Shoten). The poetry collection section contains 53 types of poetry, including the Twenty-one Daishu, Manyoshu, Shinyo Wakashu, historical poetry collections, diary and story poetry collections, and 113 types of poetry, including the Rokukashu, the Kasenshu, various poetry collections, private selections, and poetry contests, with each poem numbered. The index section breaks down the main poem into individual phrases, and the sequel only includes the first and fourth phrases, but they are arranged in alphabetical order, with the book title, poetry collection name, and poem number below. This makes it extremely convenient to search for a whole poem, author, source, etc., from just a part of a waka poem, and coupled with its large size, the role it played in revolutionizing the study of Japanese literature is highly regarded. In addition, "New Compilation of National Poets" was published by Kadokawa Shoten in 10 volumes (20 books in total) from 1983 to 1992 (Showa 58 to Heisei 4). It consists of Volume 1, Imperial anthologies (1983; one volume per year thereafter), Volume 2, Private anthologies, Volume 3, Private anthologies I, Volume 4, Private anthologies II, Fixed number of poems, Volume 5, Poetry contests, Poetry collected from books on the study of poetry, stories, diaries, etc., Volume 6, Private anthologies II, Volume 7, Private anthologies III, Volume 8, Private anthologies IV, Volume 9, Private anthologies V, Volume 10, Fixed number of poems II, Poetry contests II, and supplements. Especially from Volume 2 onwards, a huge number of newly collected works have been added, completely changing the appearance of the previous collection.
