Nakagawa River

Japanese: 那賀川 - なかがわ
Nakagawa River
A river flowing east through central-southern Tokushima Prefecture. It meanders through the southern part of the Tsurugi Mountains and flows into the Kii Channel north of Anan City. It is 125 km long. The upstream Niudani area was a forestry region, and development progressed with the construction of the Choanguchi Dam and Kawaguchi Dam. National Route 195 runs along the river, passing through the Yotsuashi Pass Tunnel and reaching the Monobe River basin in Kochi Prefecture. The mountain stream about 2 km west of Washiki in Naka Town is a scenic spot called the Washiki Line, where there are pleasure boats that go down the river and is used as a practice area for canoe races. The foothills of the downstream area are mandarin orange growing areas, and the Anan Plain is a rice paddy area. There are sawmills and paper mills near the river mouth. The upstream area belongs to the Chubu Yamakei Prefectural Natural Park.
