Nagai Basin

Japanese: 長井盆地 - ながいぼんち

A basin in the upper reaches of the Mogami River in the central southern part of Yamagata Prefecture. An alluvial basin formed in the northern part of the Yonezawa Basin, near the confluence of the Mogami River and the Nogawa River. It is long and narrow from north to south in the shape of a graben, and is separated from the Yonezawa Basin to the southeast by Nagameyama. Mulberry fields spread across the river terraces, and the floodplains are rice paddy areas. Nagai City is the center of the southern part, and Shirataka Town is the center of the northern part.

山形県南部中央，最上川の上流部にある盆地。米沢盆地の北部，最上川と野川の合流付近に形成された沖積盆地。地溝状で南北に細長く，眺 (ながめ) 山で南東の米沢盆地と区分される。川の段丘面には桑園が広がり，氾濫原は水田地域。南部は長井市，北部は白鷹町が中心。
