Trade unionism

Japanese: トレード･ユニオニズム（英語表記）trade unionism

It is translated as "trade unionism." It is one of the ideas related to the labor movement, and tends to emphasize the labor union movement. Originally, it was a term referring to the labor union movement itself, but when Lenin criticized the British labor movement from a Marxist standpoint (What is to be Done?, 1902), he used this word to characterize the British movement, and it has come to be used as a term to mean an ideology that neglects the need for reform of the social system and places too much emphasis on economic interests, such as improving the working conditions of wage workers. Since labor unions were well developed in Britain, political activities were also carried out by the Labor Party, which was born from labor unions, and placed emphasis on reform within the framework of the capitalist system, but in Marxism reformism was criticized as an obstacle to system change.

〈労働組合主義〉と訳される。労働運動に関する思想の一つで，労働組合運動を重視する傾向をもつ。元来は労働組合運動そのものをさす用語であるが，レーニンがマルクス主義の立場からイギリス労働運動を批判した(《何をなすべきか》1902)際にイギリスの運動をこの言葉で特徴づけたため，社会体制の変革の必要を軽視し，賃金労働者の労働条件の改善など経済的利害を偏重する思想を意味する言葉として使われている。イギリスでは労働組合が発達していたので政治活動も労働組合を母体として生まれた労働党によって担われ，資本主義体制の枠内での改良を重視したが，マルクス主義においては改良主義は体制変革を妨げるものとして批判されていた。
