Olfactory nerve
The sensory nerve that transmits the sense of smell. It is the first cranial nerve. It is a nerve process that runs from the base of the olfactory cells distributed in the olfactory epithelium of the nasal cavity to the olfactory bulb in the cranial cavity, and is noted as a primitive type of sensory nerve in that it sends nerve processes directly to the brain. The olfactory nerve is easily damaged by head trauma.
