<br /> The remains of a jadeite manufacturing plant in Ichinomiya, Itoigawa City, Niigata Prefecture. It is located on a hill about 80 meters above sea level, about 1.8 km from JR Itoigawa Station, near the Hime River basin. As a result of three excavation surveys since 1954 (Showa 29), remains of dwellings and hearths have been discovered, and a large amount of jadeite raw stones and processed products, as well as whetstones and stone tools for scraping, have been excavated, proving that this is the remains of a jadeite manufacturing plant in the middle of the Jomon period. There is a jadeite source (natural monument) in the Kotaki River, upstream of the Hime River, and it is thought that the raw stones collected from this valley were processed. Large jadeite beads, a representative relic from this period, are widely distributed in the Hokuriku region, as well as in the Chubu and Kanto regions. This site is one of the manufacturing sites, and due to its high academic value, it was designated as a national historic site in 1971 (Showa 46), and received additional designation in 1985 (Showa 60). About 30 minutes walk from Itoigawa Station on the JR Hokuriku Main Line and other lines.

新潟県糸魚川市一ノ宮にある硬玉(こうぎょく)製作跡。JR糸魚川駅から約1.8km離れた、姫川流域に近い標高80mほどの丘陵上に所在する。1954年（昭和29）からの3回にわたる発掘調査の結果、住居跡・炉跡などの遺構が発見され、多量の硬玉原石とその加工品をはじめ、砥石や擦り切り用石器なども出土し、縄文時代中期の硬玉製作跡であることが判明した。姫川の上流、小滝川には硬玉原産地（天然記念物）があり、この渓谷から採取した原石を加工したものと考えられている。この時期の代表的な遺物である硬玉製大珠は、北陸地方を中心とし、中部、関東地方に広く分布するが、この遺跡はその製作遺跡の一つであり、学術的価値が高いことなどから、1971年（昭和46）に国の史跡に指定され、1985年（昭和60）に追加指定を受けた。JR北陸本線ほか糸魚川駅から徒歩約30分。
