Thor

Japanese: トル(英語表記)Thor
Thor
Also known as Thor. An ancient Germanic god. In Germany he was called Donar. He was a god of thunder, worshipped since ancient times especially in Scandinavia. His wife was Sif. He is said to be the son or brother of Odin, a giant of great strength and the bravest of the gods. He lived in the huge palace of Asgard, Byrskirnir (540 stories tall), and possessed the hammer Mjolnir, which could kill any giant with one blow and would return to its hand after being thrown. It was said that thunder would occur when he swung the hammer vigorously. He rode in a chariot pulled by a male goat to conquer the giants, but was also caught in the giants' tricks. At the end of the world, he and the Midgard snake fought to the death. While Odin was the god of nobles and warriors, Thor is said to be the patron deity of farmers. He is also the god who blesses marriages and makes the earth fertile. The English equivalent of the Latin word Jovisdies (Jupiter's Day) is Thursday (Thus' Day), and the Romans ascribed Thus to Hercules and later to Jupiter.
