He was an electrical engineer born in Russia and active in Germany. He perfected three-phase AC technology. He was born in St. Petersburg. He studied mechanical engineering at the Riga Technical School and then electrical engineering at the Darmstadt Technical School in Germany. He then joined the German company Edison (later AEG). After studying the ideas of the Italian G. Ferraris on induction motors, Dolibo Dobrowolski created the three-phase induction motor in 1889. In the same year, he invented the three-phase transformer.

ロシアに生まれドイツで活躍した電気技術者。三相交流技術の完成者である。ペテルブルグに生まれた。リガの工業学校で機械工学などを学んだのち，ドイツのダルムシュタット工科学校で電気工学を勉強した。その後，ドイツ･エジソン社(のちのAEG社)に入った。イタリア人G.フェラリスの誘導電動機に関する考案を検討して，ドリボ･ドブロウォルスキーは三相誘導電動機を1889年につくった。同年に彼は三相変圧器を考案した。
