Born June 14, 1946 in New York, New York. American businessman and politician. 45th President (in office 2017-21). Full name Donald John Trump. Born into a wealthy family of real estate developers. Graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1968. Joined the Trump Organization, run by his father, and rapidly expanded its business in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1983, Trump Tower was built in Manhattan, New York. By the end of the 1980s, the company owned numerous buildings, hotels, condominiums for sale and rental, casinos, and had also expanded into the aviation industry. In the early 1990s, the company fell into financial difficulties due to the slump in the real estate industry, and is said to have lost almost all of his personal assets, but in the subsequent economic boom, he rebuilt his business in the late 1990s. He appeared as a host on the reality show "The Apprentice" from 2004, and gained popularity as a shrewd and outspoken businessman. He also diversified his business further by using his name as a brand, including finance and online education. In 1999, he considered running for president as a member of the Reform Party. He later switched to the Republican Party, and attracted attention in the 2012 presidential election when he questioned President Barack Obama's American citizenship. In 2015, he announced his candidacy for the next presidential election. During the election campaign, he positioned himself as a political outsider who opposed the establishment Republican mainstream, and gained support. His radical remarks about restricting immigration from Mexico and Muslims to the country confused the mainstream Republican Party, and his misogynistic remarks drew criticism, but he was nominated as the Republican candidate in July 2016. In the November 2016 election, he defeated Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and was elected the 45th president.

Originally it meant trump card. It is a type of card game, but in Japan the cards themselves are often called trump cards. It usually consists of 52 cards, with one or two jokers and 13 cards of each of the four types ♠, ♡, ♢, and ♣. It was introduced to Europe from China or India around the 13th century and developed independently. In the early days it was used for fortune-telling under the name Tarot. The version used today was unified after the 19th century. Other versions with different suits and numbers of cards are used in France, Germany, Switzerland, and other countries.

本来は切り札の意。カードゲームの一種でもあるが，日本ではカードそのものをトランプと呼ぶ場合が多い。普通はジョーカーを1～2枚と ♠，♡，♢，♣の4種 13枚ずつ 52枚のカードから成る。 13世紀頃に中国またはインドからヨーロッパに伝来して独自に発展した。初期にはタロットの呼び名で占いに用いられた。現在使われているものは 19世紀以後に統一された。ほかにもマークや枚数の違うものがフランス，ドイツ，スイスなどで使われている。
