A former town in Yamagata County in the mid-west of Hiroshima Prefecture. It has a large forested area, and there are farmlands and settlements in the narrow valleys along the valleys. Forestry, rice farming, poultry farming, dairy cow breeding, and vegetable cultivation are carried out, with cucumber cultivation being particularly popular. In February 2005, it merged with Geihoku Town, Oasa Town, and Chiyoda Town in Yamagata County to become Kitahiroshima Town. 130.66 km2 . 4,544 people (2003).
