A town in Kitasoma County in southern Ibaraki Prefecture. Located near the confluence of the Tone River and the Kokai River, the Fukawa River at the center of the town flourished as a river port on the Tone Waterway. Rice cultivation is thriving, and residential development is underway. There are also factories that produce machinery and food products. The town is connected to Chiba Prefecture by Sakae Bridge over the Tone River. The town suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 24.90 km2 . Population: 17,473 (2010).
