Japanese: ドナクス（英語表記）Donax cannaeformis (Forst.) Schum.

A shrub-like perennial plant of the Aragonaceae family. It grows to a height of 1-2m, with an erect stem that branches at the top. The leaves grow alternately at the ends of the branches, with oblong leaf blades measuring 10-15cm in length, and a well-developed leaf sheath that envelops the stem. The flowers are white and sparsely borne in panicles at the top of the stem. It is widely distributed from Myanmar to Malaysia and further into Melanesia, and often grows in colonies in wetlands. The larger species, Donax grandis (Miq.) Ridl. (illustration), is distributed in Sumatra, Malaysia, and Borneo.
