The title of a sekkyobushi (a traditional Japanese song of a Buddhist sect). Since the Middle Ages, it has been passed down among the lower-ranking monks of Mount Koya, the Kayado Hijiri (sacred priests), and the original version, Sekkyo Karukaya (1631), was published in the early modern period. Kato Shigeuji, the leader of the Chikuzen Matsuura clan, felt the impermanence of life and became a monk, taking the name Karukaya Doshin. His son, Sekidomaru, climbs Mount Koya to visit his father, and they meet, but Karukaya, keeping his vow to his teacher Honen, refrains from taking the name of father and son. It is a poignant depiction of the affection between father and son between Karukaya and Sekidomaru. A joruri piece based on this piece and others is the 1735 joruri piece Karukayasomon Tsukushi (Karukaya Doshin Tsukushi no Iedzuto).
