Terai [town] - Terai

Japanese: 寺井[町] - てらい

An old town in Nomi County in southern Ishikawa Prefecture. It occupies the left bank of the downstream Tedori River and is served by the Hokuriku Main Line. Known as the main production area of Kutani ware, the Kutani Tea Bowl Festival is held every year from May 3rd to 5th. There are textile, precision machinery and iron factories located here. It is also famous as a producer of early-season rice. In February 2005, it merged with Neagari Town and Tatsunokuchi Town in Nomi County to become a city, Nomi City. Area: 13.15 ^km2 . Population: 16,213 (2003).

石川県南部，能美(のみ)郡の旧町。手取(てどり)川下流の左岸を占め，北陸本線が通じる。九谷焼の主産地として知られ，毎年５月３〜５の日に九谷茶碗祭が行われる。織物，精密機械工業，鉄工業などの工場が立地。早場米の産地としても有名。2005年２月能美郡根上町，辰口町と合併し市制，能美市となる。13.15km²。１万6213人（2003）。
