Japanese: 杜光庭 - とこうてい
Tokoutei

A Chinese Taoist priest of the Five Dynasties in the late Tang Dynasty. His pen name was Binsheng and his title was Dong Yingzi. He was from Chang'an or Shuzhou. He first took the Nine Classics examination in the Imperial Examination but failed, and later went to Mount Tiantai to study under the Taoist priest Ying Yi Jie. In 881 (Zhonghe 1), he accompanied Emperor Xizong (reigned 873-888) to Chengdu in Shu, where he stayed and served the father and son Wang Jian (reigned 907-918) and Wang Yan of Former Shu, eventually becoming Kobu Jiro (Officer of the Interior) and receiving the titles of Hironari Sensei and Denshin Daishi. He was a great scholar representing the Taoist world in the late Tang and Five Dynasties period, and made great efforts in collecting and compiling the scattered Daoist texts. In addition to the Dao Dao Zhen Jing Guang Sheng Gi, in which he developed his own theory based on Xuanzong's commentary while selectively incorporating existing commentaries on the Laozi, he also wrote many other works, including the Daomen Kehan Dai Zenshu, Taishang Huang Luozhai Yi, and Guangcheng Shu.
