A former town in Saba District, central Yamaguchi Prefecture. It occupies the middle and upper reaches of the Saba River, and the Namera National Forest in the upper reaches of the mountains is known for its beauty, and it has long been a timber producing area. A bus runs from Hofu City to the moat of the main settlement. There is the Saba River Dam. In October 2005, it was incorporated into Yamaguchi City along with Akiho Town, Ogori Town, and Ajisu Town of Yoshiki District. 290.35 km2 . 8,449 people (2003). 山口県中部,佐波(さば)郡の旧町。佐波川の中・上流域を占め,上流山地の滑(なめら)国有林は美林として知られ,古くから木材の産地。主集落の堀に防府(ほうふ)市からバスが通じる。佐波川ダムがある。2005年10月吉敷郡秋穂町,小郡町,阿知須町と山口市へ編入。290.35km2。8449人(2003)。
