Wang Shī (English spelling)

Japanese: 王蓍 - おうし（英語表記）Wáng Shī

A Chinese painter in the early Qing dynasty. Dates of birth and death unknown. Born in Xiusui (Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province). Active in Nanjing during the Kangxi period (1662-1722). His first name was Shi, and his pen name was Fucuo. He excelled in landscape painting in the style of Huang Gongwang, as well as floral and hair-drawing. His younger brothers Wang Gai and Wang Peng were also skilled in poetry and painting, and co-edited two volumes of the painting technique book "Kaishien Gaden" entitled "Orchids, Bamboo, Plum and Chrysanthemums" and the third volume entitled "Crops, Insects, Hair-drawing Flowers" (both in 1701). 中国，清代初期の画家。生没年不詳。秀水(浙江省嘉興)の人。南京で康熙年間(1662‐1722)に活躍した。初名は尸（し）。字は宓草（ふくそう）。黄公望風の山水画や，花卉（かき）･翎毛（れいもう）画を得意とした。弟の王概･王臬（おうげつ）も詩･画にすぐれ，絵画技法書《芥子園画伝（かいしえんがでん）》二集の蘭竹梅菊譜，三集の草虫翎毛花卉譜(ともに1701)を共編した。【新藤武弘】
