...Jewish festival celebrating the autumn harvest. In Hebrew it is called Sukkoth. For one week from the 15th of the Jewish month of Tishre (September-October), people build thatched huts in their gardens or on their verandas, hang the autumn harvest from the ceiling, and eat three meals a day in these huts while remembering the hardships of their ancestors who wandered the wilderness of Sinai and the Negev for 40 years after escaping from Egypt long ago before entering the fertile land of Canaan.
