Japanese: ミツマタ(三椏) - ミツマタ（英語表記）paper‐bush

A deciduous shrub of the Thymelaeaceae family with three branches and golden-yellow flowers (illustration). It is cultivated as a raw material for Japanese paper and as a flowering tree. Its Chinese names are Yuxiang and Huangruixiang. It is 1-2m tall, and in July the tips of new branches suddenly split into three, growing densely. The leaves are alternate, oblong or lanceolate, 8-25cm long, and hairy on the underside. In autumn, inflorescence buds wrapped in leaf-shaped bracts on 1-2cm stalks appear in the upper axils of the branches. The inflorescence is a head containing 30-50 flowers, which open in March and April, earlier than the leaves.

枝が3本に分かれ花が黄金色のジンチョウゲ科の落葉低木（イラスト）。和紙の原料木および花木として栽培される。漢名は結香，黄瑞香。高さ1～2m，7月ごろ新しい枝の先が急に3本に分かれて伸び，密に茂る。葉は互生し，長楕円形ないし披針形で長さ8～25cm，裏に伏毛がある。秋ごろ，枝の上部葉腋（ようえき）から1～2cmの柄で葉形の苞に包まれた花序のつぼみが点頭する。花序は頭状で30～50個の花からなり，3,4月，葉より早く開く。
