Tang Yin Comparison - Tang Yin

A court case tale from the Song Dynasty in China. Based on the earlier "Gigoshu" by He Ning and his son He, Kei Ban'ei combined Zheng Ke's "Setsugokikan" to compile excellent examples of criminal investigation and judgments from ancient times to serve as a reference for those in charge of prisons. Similar cases are paired together (comparisons), and the title is a four-character rhyming word, following the example of "Mongyu." There are 144 articles in total. Tangyin was named after Zhou Bo, who traveled to the southern regions and held impromptu trials in the shade of the Gantang tree. Published in 1211. In the Ming dynasty, the majority of the texts were reprinted by Wu Nu, but the original work by Katsura was brought to Japan through a Korean edition, and in the early Edo period, it had a great influence on Edo court documents through translations such as the Japanese edition with kunten annotations by Hayashi Razan and the "Tang Yin Hiko Monogatari." Representative examples of this include "Itakura Seiyo," which depicts the trial of the father and son Itakura Katsushige and Shigemune, Kyoto Shoshidai, "Honcho Sakurain Hiko" by Ihara Saikaku, which attacked this, as well as "Honcho Fujiin Hiko," "Aoto Fujitsuna Moryoan" and "Ooka Seidan" by Kyokutei Bakin.
