Tang Yi fen (English spelling)

Japanese: 湯貽汾 - とういふん（英語表記）Tāng Yí fén

1778‐1853
A painter from the Qing Dynasty in China. His pen name was Ruoyi and his pen name was Yusheng. In his later years he went by the name Hituou. He was from Wujin, Jiangsu Province (now Changzhou). In 1853 (the third year of the Xianfeng era), he died during the attack by the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom army and was given the posthumous name of Zhenmin. He studied astronomy, geography, and the various disciplines, and excelled in the arts of playing the zither, swordplay, and flute playing. He was skilled in calligraphy, painting, poetry, and prose. In calligraphy and painting, he imitated Dong Qichang, and his paintings of flowers and plum blossoms exuded a high level of elegance, while his paintings of pines and cypresses had a clumsy, old-fashioned quality. He is known alongside Dai Xi as one of the last literati painters.

中国，清代の画家。字は若儀，号は雨生。晩年は粥翁（ひつおう）と号した。江蘇省武進(現，常州)の人。1853年(咸豊3)太平天国軍の攻略にあって殉死し，貞愍（ていびん）という諡（おくりな）を贈られた。天文，地理，百家の学問を修め，弾琴，撃剣，吹簫の諸芸に秀でた。書画詩文に巧みで，書画は董其昌（とうきしよう）を倣って花卉（かき），梅の画に高い気韻を漂わせ，松柏の画には古拙味があった。戴熙とともに最後の文人画の一人として並称される。
