Temple, Shirley

Japanese: テンプル(英語表記)Temple, Shirley
Temple, Shirley
Born: April 23, 1928 in Santa Monica, California
[Died] February 10, 2014. Woodside, California. American child star. Full name Shirley Jane Temple. Married Shirley Temple Black. She was a world-famous child star in the 1930s. At the age of three, she was picked out of a dance class to star in the short comedy series "Baby Burlesks." Her first feature film, the musical film "Stand Up and Cheer" (1934), was a success, and she continued to appear in films, winning a special Academy Award the following year in 1935. She is famous for singing "On the Good Ship Lollipop" in "Bright Eyes" (1934). From 1935 to 1938, she was Hollywood's top earner, producing hit after hit, including "The Little Colonel" (1935) and "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm" (1938). Temple's energetic singing and dancing, dimples, blond curls, and the simple, optimistic atmosphere of her films were alluring, especially during Temple's heyday in the Great Depression. But her popularity began to wane in the 1940s. In 1950, she retired from film and married Charles A. Black. In 1967, she lost a seat in the California House of Representatives, but served as the U.S. representative to the United Nations General Assembly from 1969 to 1970, and later served in other positions, including ambassador to Ghana (1974-76), master of protocol for President Gerald R. Ford (1976-77), and ambassador to Czechoslovakia (1989-92).
