One word per episode

Japanese:
One word per episode

Essays and excerpts by Ota Nanpo (Shokusanjin). Six of the original 56 volumes handwritten by himself have been lost, but the work has been largely restored thanks to the addition of a typeset book compiled from various manuscripts (volume 40 is missing). Reflecting Nanpo's work as a shogunate official from his 20s to 70s, his life as a man of letters, his voracious reading ability and wide-ranging desire for knowledge, the content is diverse and rich, and there were many requests to borrow the works during his lifetime, and many copies were made. This is one of Nanpo's most representative essays, and a typical essay that sparked the popularity of the so-called Edo essays.
