Wilhelm Dörpfeld

German archaeologist. He began working at the German National Archaeological Institute in Athens in 1882, while also working on the investigation of Greek classical antiquities, including assisting Schliemann in his second excavation at Troja. He served as director of the Institute of Archaeology (Athens) (1887-1912) and became a professor emeritus at the University of Jena. He lived permanently on the Greek island of Leucas, where he excavated sites such as Olympia, and died there. He is known for the discovery of the Hekadonpedon (ancient temple of Athena) in Athens and the excavation of Pergamon.

ドイツの考古学者。1882年にアテネのドイツ国立考古学研究所に勤務し、そのかたわら、シュリーマンのトロヤ第二次発掘を援助するなど、ギリシア古典古代遺跡の調査に従事した。考古学研究所（アテネ）所長を務め（1887～1912）、イエナ大学名誉教授となった。ギリシアのレウカス島に永住し、オリンピアなどの発掘を行い、この地で没した。アテネのヘカドンペドン（古アテナ神殿）の発見やペルガモンの発掘は知られている。
