French canon law scholar. His French name was Guillaume Durand. Born into an aristocratic family, he studied law in Lyon and then Bologna, where he lectured on canon law both in Bologna and in Modena. However, he was soon called to Rome, where he was appointed to various important positions by successive popes, and also became the Bishop of Mende. He wrote many books, but his main one is Speculum judiciale (1271-76, revised 1289-91). It summarizes the results of Roman canon law up to that point, drawing on his own judicial and administrative experience, and became a standard work for later generations.

フランスのカノン法(教会法)学者。フランス名はデュランGuillaume Durand。貴族の家に生まれ，リヨンについでボローニャで法学を修得，同地およびモデナでカノン法を講じた。しかしただちにローマに呼ばれ，歴代教皇によって種々の要職に任ぜられ，またマンドの司教にもなった。数多くの著作があるが，主著は《訴訟鑑Speculum judiciale》(1271‐76，改訂1289‐91)。それまでのローマ･カノン法の訴訟法学の成果を自分の司法･行政経験をも踏まえながら総括し，後代にとって標準的な作品となった。
