Born: 1804. Fossano Died in 1866. A French civil engineering inspector and mathematician in Paris. A pioneer of the subjective theory of value. In his 1844 paper "On the Measurement of the Utility of Public Works" (De la mesure de l'utilité des travaux publics), he depicted the relationship between price and consumption as a continuous consumption (demand) curve, and used the term "relative utility" to express today's monetary value of consumer surplus. In this way, he derived most of the basic propositions of the subjective theory of value, which has been systematically developed since the marginal revolution. In his 1849 paper "On the Influence of the Charges on the Utility of Means of Communication" (De l'influence des pages sur l'utilité des voies de communication), he applied the above theory to the measurement of the utility of public works, and attempted to use it as the basis for the management of means of transportation.
