A general term for ethnic groups that use Altaic languages. They are widely distributed across the east and west of the northern and central Eurasian continent, covering Korea, northeastern China, Mongolia, northeast Asia, Central Asia, and Turkey. They can be broadly divided into three groups: Turkic-speaking tribes, Tungusic-speaking tribes, and Mongolian-speaking tribes (Kalmyks, Buryats, Mongols, Dagur, etc.). Their occupations include nomadic herding by the Kyrgyz and Kalmyks, farming by the Manchus and Koreans, fishing by the Tungus and Goldi, fur-hunting by the Oroks, and reindeer breeding by the Tungus. In terms of religion, shamanism is widespread, and there is also reverence for heaven or a supreme deity.

アルタイ諸語を使用する諸民族の総称。地域は朝鮮，中国東北部，モンゴル，北東アジア，中央アジア，トルコにかけてユーラシア大陸の北部および中央部の東西に広く分布している。大別すると，チュルク語系諸族 ,ツングース語系諸族 ,モンゴル語系諸族 (カルムイク族，ブリヤート族，モンゴル人，ダグール族など) の3グループがある。生業はキルギス人，カルムイク族の遊牧，満州族，朝鮮人の農耕，ツングース族，ゴルディ族の漁業，オロッコ族の毛皮獣の狩猟，ツングース族のトナカイ飼育など。宗教面では，シャーマニズムが広く分布し，天ないし至高神への尊崇もみられる。
