Grammar

Japanese: てにをは
Grammar
The name of a type of Japanese word, roughly equivalent to a particle or a particle-auxiliary verb. This name has appeared since the beginning of the Kamakura period, and was later called "te ni wa." These names come from "wo koto ten," which is used when reading Chinese classics in Japanese. There are various dot forms for "wo koto ten," but "te ni o ha" is the dot form used by the doctor's family, and "te ni wa" is either an abbreviation of that or a different dot form. It seems that what is lumped together under this name is the general word indicated by "wo koto ten."
